Shaktikanta Das
 
Personalities 1_22 May - 28 May 2022.pngShaktikanta Das (born 26 February 1957) is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. Currently serving as the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), he was earlier a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission and India's Sherpa to the G20.
 
During his career as an IAS officer, Das served in various capacities for Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, including as Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary, Fertilizers Secretary. He has also served as India’s Alternate Governor in the World Bank, ADB, NDB & AIIB. He has represented India in various international forums like the IMF, G20, BRICS, SAARC, etc.
 
Born in Bhubaneswar, Das was schooled at the Demonstration Multipurpose School, Bhubaneswar, and then obtained bachelor's (BA) and master's degrees (MA) in history from the St. Stephen's College at the University of Delhi. He was awarded D.Litt. by Utkal University in 2021.
 
Das was appointed Union Revenue Secretary by the prime minister-led-Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) in June 2014, he assumed the office of Secretary on 16 June 2014, and demitted it on 31 August 2015.
 
Das was appointed Union Economic Affairs Secretary by the ACC in August 2014. Das was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India by the ACC on 11 December 2018 for a period of three years, replacing Urjit Patel who had resigned the day before.

He hosts a number of programmes including the channel's flagship weekday show Prime Time, Hum Log, Ravish Ki Report and Des Ki Baat.
 
Kumar has twice been conferred with Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award for the Best Journalist of the Year and became the fifth Indian journalist to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2019.
 
Kumar was born on 5 December 1974 in Jitwarpur village in Bihar. He obtained his high school education from Loyola High School, Patna. Later he moved to Delhi for higher studies. He was graduated from Deshbandhu College, affiliated to the University of Delhi. Eventually he enrolled in post-graduate diploma in Hindi Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
 
Kumar has been conferred with various awards for his work in journalism with Ramon Magsaysay Award (2019) being the most prestigious one. He is two times recipient of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award (2017, 2013) for broadcast category in Hindi language. The list continues with Gauri Lankesh Award for Journalism, first Kuldip Nayar journalism award (2017), Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award for Hindi Journalism and Creative Literature (for 2010, awarded in 2014). He was included in the list of 100 most influential Indian (2016) by The Indian Express and also named journalist of the year by Mumbai Press Club.
